Google Search Fun!!

Today in class, we were learning how to use the Microphone on Google to search "how to say Merry Christmas is Spanish" (for example). We made a set of Google Slides then wrote down 5 different ways of writing Merry Christmas. I chose to do the 5 languages, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, French, and Turkish. 

After we wrote down our 5 languages we moved onto the next task which was the 'Google Search fun' we had to search (say to the microphone) after searching them we then took a screenshot and placed it onto your slides.

Summer Learning Journal Trial

The next step, for trialing the Summer Learning Journey is to 'Step it Up' basically we take another drawing from Art Colouring Book and examine the textures, designs, colours, patterns, lines etc. Here is the picture I chose to examine... 

I noticed that there are dots, lines, curves, textures, shapes, frilly edges and colours (peach, coral, blues :light blue, dark blue, forest blue: whites, greys and creams.) 

(In case your wondering what the Summer Learning Journey is... it's a programme that runs over the Summer Holidays, the Manaiakalani. Programme sets tasks for you to complete. However you don't have to complete every task set for you, it's completely optional! Last year I tried the Summer Learning Journey and loved it, I also almost completed 100 blog posts over December and January.)

Roses by Vincent Van Gogh

Today my class experimented using Art Colouring Book, a website were you can choose an image to colour in (I chose a pot of roses). We found this website of the Summer Learning Journey 2020-2021 example. Here is my colouring, next to the original...

I chose and decided to change the colour of the background to a dark blue so that the purple, yellow and pink roses stood out. I also chose to make the flowers brighter to make the image more vibrant, interesting and 'summery'.

Rural Athletics Day 2020!

 Last week was full of fun and action, with the Matawai School Ag Day (pet’s day) and the Rural Athletics Day. Meaning, that we only had 3 days of learning in the classrooms and the last 2 days of the week (Thursday and Friday) away at events. Both days were really fun, however I think (despite all of the cute animals) Athletics day was my favourite. 

When we arrived at the Rural Athletics, we meet up with all of the teachers and classmates. Then we went and practised some of the activities (high jump, long jump, shot put, running and discus) however I only practised high jump and long jump before the races. Afterwards, we were called together to sit in our age groups and listen up for the start of the day. 

The lady in charge called everyone to there places and the day had begun. Firstly, the Yr 7’s where called to do high jump, which I really enjoyed! I had only ever jumped 1m 10cm however on the day I managed to jump 1m 25cm! Which I was really proud of! My friend Jaimee managed to jump 1m 27cm and she won first place by only 2cm, so I came second. So the 3 Matawai girls came 1st, 2nd, 3rd! (Jaimee 1st, Me/Hayley 2nd and Rylee 3rd)

Next, we rotated around the field to shot put. However, my 2 chances were throws, so I didn’t place! But, my strongest point isn’t shot put or discus, my strengths are running and long jump, so I just had to remind myself that I can’t be good at everything. 

After waiting, for the other Yr 7 girls and boys we rotated onto long jump. Abby (a girl from another school went first,) followed by Rylee (my friend from Matawai) Jaimee (another on of my friends) myself, and then 3 other Yr 7 girls. On my first jump I jumped 3m 42cm  and on my 2nd go I jumped 3m, 64cm, so the second time I jumped 20cm more.

Rotating around the field after that we moved onto discus, which was really clogged up and we had to wait 45 MINUTES!! And it was around lunchtime/mid day, so it was really hot and there was hardly any shade. And before was came to the discus the Yr 8’s had been waiting and they had been waiting almost an 1 hour. So, when it was finally our turn, I threw a total of 11m, 34cm. Which I was pretty proud of considering that discus and shot put aren’t my strong point. 

Finally the field events were over and it was lunch time, so after I ate my lunch my amazing friend Rylee brought me a Juicy ice block. After that however, we had the track and relay races. So, we lined back up in our age groups and waited for the start of the runners. First event was the 60m sprint. We lined up and GO!! I ran as fast as I could go, and came first!! Next was the 200m (running once around the oval) and once again came first. 

Then the last running race was the 600m (running 3 times around the oval) and once again came first! I was super proud of myself. 

Lastly, we were onto the last part of the day which was the relay races. I was the first relay runner, followed by Blake, Liana and Charlie (kids in my class) And surprise!! We came first once again! I was really proud of my relay runner group and we did really good!

Overall, I had a great day and can’t wait for next years Athletics Day!

Pop Art With LunaPic!

Today with our Cybersmart teacher, we used LunaPic to create self Popart. First, we took a selfie of ourselves. Next, we went on to LunaPic and used filters to edit our photos. Then we took screen-shots of each of the 4 photos and inserted them onto a google drawings. We then embedded the Google drawings and posted it to our blog. It's really simple, easy and quick to make. Here is my final result

Halloween Sentence Starters

Today in class, we wrote Halloween Story starters. Here is my writing...

~Story Starters~

1. I take a deep breath, then I blow out. The candle light dies and I snuggle into soft, cuddly blankets. Hours later I wake up,

there is a light in the room the candle is flickering, but how? I blew it out hours before.

2. I wake to a deadly, and worrying silence, I climb out of bed and open my curtains as I draw them back I look outside the streets are empty, no cars, no people going for a morning jog, no people walking their dogs… then I realize that…

3. Cuddled on the couch with my purring cat, the fire burning, the clock ticking, I spend hours with my nose in a book. BANG!!!!! The kitchen roof collapses and my cat springs in the air…

4. A beautiful sunny day, your family decided have a picnic. Later that evening you and your family are sitting at the top of a hill, watching the sunset enjoying a picnic dinner. As you relaxing you here a huge crumbling sound… the bank is collapsing under your feet…

5. I wake up, and start my morning routine as usual turn the kettle on, go to the bathroom, take let the dog out. I come back to the kitchen theirs paint splattered all over the floor. But how, everyone is sleeping? (this actully happened to my Mum when she woke up one morning!!! We have a friendly ghost in your house, but our house is over 100 years old)

Beach Day Collage

 Hello everyone!!! Term 3 holidays is finally over and we are back at school for the last term of the holidays! Over the holidays my family went to the beach in Gisborne, it was just my family (Mum, Dad, my brother and I) we also decided to take the (what Dad calls the 'Mutt racer') aka the dog! :D Anyways, at the beach we built things in the sand, went swimming, played in with the dog and played cricket. We added a little twist to the cricket and we played it facing the water, so that the fielder had to go and fetch the ball in the water. Anyways, we had a really fun day and I might even do a blog about my holiday writing. Mrs Bennett let us make a collage to go with our writing so here is mine!
