Origami!

Today's SLJ post is about Origami and 3D paper! Our first instruction was to find a video clip on YouTube explaining how to fold origami, slow it down and complete the tutorial. I decided to fold and create a paper cup. After we created the origami, to Step It Up we were asked to create a screencastify to explain how we made our origami creations. This took me a little while to create, and I found it quite challenging, but anyways, here is my final result, and instructions to how I made my cup. Have you ever tried Origami, what did you make? Tell me in the comments and I will try to reply as soon as possible! Enjoy!

Surprisingly, the cup actually held water and I managed to drink out of it!

Now, for the screencastify, and how I made it...

(there are actually two videos, sorry for the inconvenience!)

  1. Kia Ora Hayley,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey.

I love making origami so I found this activity to be very interesting and I like all the different things people have been making.

It is awesome to hear that you enjoyed this activity and were able to make your own paper cup that was actually functioning and held water, great job! The video you shared is also super helpful for your blog readers so they can have a go to.

Have you had a look at the origami stars, that might be a fun next step you could include in this post.

I am looking forward to seeing your screencastify once it is uploaded, keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

    1. Kia Ora Zana,

You mentioned that you love origami, what parts do you like the most about it? What do you like making?

Thanks for the feedback on my blog, yes your right the next step could be making some origami stars, that would be fun!

I have now uploaded the screencastify and so now you take a look at that when you have time. Nice hearing back from you!

      Happy holidays and stay safe!
Have you got any plans for the rest of the holidays?

    2. Hi Hayley,

I like making origami cranes and try to make them as small as possible. Have you tried making cranes before?

Great to see that your screencastify is working now and I found it very helpful and a good source to use when making your own origami.

  3. Kia ora Hayley,
I'm Mrs Williams and I work with Mrs Torrie in some of our Gisborne Schools. I was lucky enough to come up to your class early in the year in 2020 and it's such a treat to see you have been busy doing the Summer Learning Journey challenges!
Wow thank you for breaking down the origami cups into an easy sequence for us using all the great resources you created. Thank you! It's also great to see all the photos you shared so that we can see the process you went through - I really like your big smile in the photo that shows the cup was successful and actually held water! What other origami creations have you made before?
    Keep up the great blogging,
    Mrs Williams

    1. Kia Ora Amie,

It's nice to hear back from you, it's been a long time! Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Other origami creations I have created in the past were things like paper boats, lucky stars, a rose, and bookmarks. Have you ever tried origami before, do you find it hard? I do sometimes but slowing down the video helps better.

Anyways, thanks again! Happy holidays, stay safe! Have you got any plans for the holidays!
