The Summer Learning Journey challenged me to a learn about prosthetic hands, we had to watch a video about them and say something that we learnt and something surprised us.
One fact about these prosthetic hands is that a company called e-NABLE makes 3-D printed hands for under $100.
One thing that surprised me was the cost of modern prosthetic's and how many people need them.

ReplyDeleteProsthetic hands (and other body parts) are very helpful for a lot of people, but can be very expensive and hard to get. Some people are actually forced to give up their hobbies/jobs after losing hands/limbs and not being able to receive prosthetics.
You found a very interesting fact from watching this video! A company called e-NABLE is making 3-D printed hands for less than $100 - I did not know that! I think that it is very cool that they are making these to help people in need for an affordable price.
When reading your post I noticed that I was left wondering about the fact that surprised you. You told me that the price of modern prosthetics and the number of people needing them were surprising, but I don’t know how much that is! Could you add those surprising statistics into your blog post?

Kia ora Hayley,
ReplyDeleteWow, prosthetic hands are so cool. Charlotte makes some great points about what can happen to people who do not get these prosthetics.
Here is the video I found. I was surprised that you could swim with a prosthetic hand. That would be just another activity that someone could now do with their new hand.
Could you add a link to the page where you found your SLJ activity so anyone who reads your blog posts can see the learning activity including the video you watched?
