Black & White, Day & Night
The Summer Learning Journey has challenged me to describe all of the details in this piece of artwork above. This drawing is by MC Escher. Here is what I describe it as . . . A drawing in the countryside with a small town and river. One side represents night time and the other represents day time. There is also birds that meet in the middle them fly different directions. The drawing is symmetrical and the artist has payed a lot of attention making it look like the same town and the same place just at different times of the day. How would you describe this drawing/artwork above???

Mōrena Hayley,
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool description of this piece of artwork, I like how you noticed that the piece is symmetrical - I don’t think I would’ve noticed that if you hadn’t pointed it out! I really like the way the artist has managed to capture this small countryside town at night and day but was still able to only use two different colours (black and white), that is pretty impressive.
What do you think about this piece of artwork, are you impressed or do you think the artist could’ve done something a bit different?
I noticed that you used the name of the artist in your blog post, were you already familiar with his artwork?
I know that you enjoy photography and other forms of art, but what about painting? Do you paint often?
I think that the way this artist has painted the birds is very creative - at the bottom of this painting the grass paddocks actually look like they are turning into the birds! Do you know of any other pieces of artwork where one thing is painted turning into another?
Robert Gonsalves
is an artist famous for paintings just like I described above.
